The successful candidate will provide an effective, responsive, efficient, high quality and professional communications service for local County Council, which includes the use of social media, marketing and media relations activity, and internal communications

Location: Northampton,

37 hours per week - Mon to Fri

From £17.22 per hour

Three-month initial assignment with possibility of extension and ongoing.

As a Communication Officer , you will:

Work under the general direction of the Deputy Comms and Marketing Manager to create innovative communications, campaigns and social media content that help the Council meet its organisational objectives

Contribute to the development of internal communications and prepare content for internal channels

Identify positive activity in the council and the best way to share it with the wider public, partners and the media using all the publicity tools available, such as press releases and social media platforms

Analyse, review and report on communications activity to maximise results and report on the success of existing projects, content and campaigns

Respond appropriately to media enquiries, prepare press releases and arrange interview opportunities

Create dynamic written, graphic and video content that is suitable for various social media and other communication platforms

Edit and agree content for publications and digital content in line with the council's policies

Ensure brand adherence in all council communications

Actively seek out examples of best practice in communications and keep up to date with the latest developments and trends in communications, public relations, marketing policy and practice and in the digital and social media landscape

To demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people's behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs



Qualified to degree level or hold a qualification from the Institute of Public Relations

Strong communications and public relations experience and/or press and media experience

Experience of Public Sector and/or Local Government Services and processes

Understanding of the parameters of the code of Local Government Publicity to ensure team is operating in accordance.

An awareness of the pressures and constraints on the public sector

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Understands technology and its role in delivering our communications strategy

Political awareness

Able to make effective decisions
