KELLY Morgan has claimed the vacant WBC Silver female middleweight title after she beat Lisa Cielas with a unanimous points decision.
In front of a packed crowd at the Grange Leisure Centre, Morgan was pushed all the way by her opponent but did enough to clinch the title in just her fourth professional fight.
Her adversary from Germany made a solid start in the opening round as she made her intent known early on.
However, Morgan began to find her range with her left jab and used her superior reach to keep control of the contest as the rounds progressed.
The fight turned into a war of attrition but Morgan looked pumped going into the final round and did enough to clinch the coveted belt.
“Obviously, I am thrilled but I am disappointed with my performance,” she said.
“I feel like that was my hardest fight and my best opponent and I give her all the credit in the world for that.
“I did what needed to be done thankfully and got the decision but I know I have got an awful lot of work and that really reaffirmed that.
“It is brilliant but we need to get back to it. I am learning but that boxing brain is not ready yet.
“Maybe, when I watch it back I will think I am not that bad. I just need to allow myself a few days to enjoy it and then it is back to the hard work and we start again.”
Meanwhile, Ryan Martin also maintained his unbeaten record as he claimed a convincing 60-54 against Arvydas Trizno.
The first couple of rounds were an even affair, Martin standing off his opponent as he tried to suss out the Lithuanian.
As they entered round two, the Swindon boxer showed an increase in tempo which gave him the edge and the 22-year-old continued to dominate Trizno.
Rounds five and six were where Martin cemented his winning position, his patience and shot selection meant he was able to claim his seventh victory as a professional.
